The feast day of the conception of Mary by St. Ann has been celebrated in the church since 1708. In 1946, the Immaculate Conception became the patron feast of the church in the United States. After Pope Pius IX defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1854, the feast became known as the Immaculate Conception.
