Our Lady of Czestochowa 3x5 Prayerful Mat
with easel back and the following on the back;
Our Lady of Czestochowa
Black Madonna
Feast Day: August 26th
According to tradition, this image was painted by St. Luke, the Evangelist, on the table at which the Holy Family used to pray and dine. Frequently referred to as the “Black Madonna”, the picture is of ancient origin when dark paints were used by artists. The scars are the result of bandits trying to destroy the painting with a sword. To this day, despite attempts to repair the damage, the slashes on the Virgin Mary’s face are still visible - a reminder of the terrible desecration the Holy Image suffered.
